Everest Region – Top of The World

Duration: 3-4 hours including ground time | Number of Passengers: Variable

Early morning take off from Kathmandu’s domestic airport for Rolwaling Valley. We will stop here for half an hour to enjoy the rarely explored sceneries of Rolwaling valley.

Further fly to Lukla – the gateway to Mount Everest and the other giant peaks of the region. From Lukla, proceed towards Everest area to view Everest Glacier, Everest Ice Fall, South Col, Mount Lhotse, Nuptse, Amadablam, Thamserku, Kwangde, Tawache, etc., and the mighty Mount Everest itself. On return leg, land at Thyangboche Monastery for about 45 minutes to participate in the morning prayers. Shortly afterwards walk to the nearby Gompa Lodge for a hearty breakfast and some hot tea/coffee or hot chocolate. After breakfast, fly back to Kathmandu via Lukla.

Highlights:

The Rolwaling valley, located between the Everest and Langtang regions is the stunning mid-Eastern range of the Himalayas. This is home to famous peaks such as Mount Ghauri Shankar (7134m), Dorje Lakpa, and many others. A few miles south of the Tibetan border, it is known as one of the seven hidden valleys in the Himalayas. This is a wild and barely explored district where legendary tales of the abominable snowman, known as the "Yeti", haunt the imagination of climbers. On the slope of Rolwaling Peak itself, the famous British mountaineer, Eric Shipton, first photographed Yeti footprints in 1951.

Another attraction of this region is Tso Rolpa Glacier Lake. It is situated at an altitude of 4580 meters from the sea level and its area is 1.65 square kilometers. It has been observed that the physical size of this lake has increased by five times since 1960.

Landing at Lukla is quite an experience. The Lukla airport, built by Sir Edmund Hillary in the by gone days, is hemmed in by hills and mountains. Lukla is a Sherpa territory, yet it is crowded by trekkers in thousands during the season who are on their way to the Everest area or returning back home. Your mountain flight will give you a very close view of Mount Everest and its surrounding peaks. This will be the major highlight of your sojourn, providing dimensional vision of the mountains whose closeness would be the prime attraction of this flight.

The massive Everest hulk is the dominating feature here, surrounded by other mighty mountains on their own rights. The mark of this flight is landing at the Tyangboche Monastery, the Vatican of the Sherpas, the world famous "Tigers of the Snows". The Monastery, rebuilt in recent years, is a "must see" for your visit to the Everest region. The serenity and peace of its neighbourhood and surroundings will give you an impression of a harmonious blend of people and place. The fragility of the environment in its delicateness will not escape your attention. This is your flying visit to the neighbourhood of Mount Everest, the tallest mountain in the World!!
